About

I am a Staff Threat Research Engineer at Material Security focused on account takeover and insider threat detection and response capabilities across Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 environments.
I've previously worked as...
- ...a Senior Data Scientist at Duo Security researching MFA device registration threats and enhancing how we provide simple, powerful access security through novel threat and anomaly detection methodology
- ...a Senior Data Scientist and Technical Lead at Human Security (née White Ops) identifying and stopping bot activity impersonating Connected TV devices (e.g. smart TVs, streaming devices/services) to commit ad fraud
- ...a Data Scientist at Gartner building their internal document search ranking models
I earned my Ph.D. and M.S. in experimental nuclear astrophysics at the University of Notre Dame's Nuclear Science Lab, and my B.S. in astrophysics and a B.S. in physics from Michigan State University's Lyman Briggs College.
My current interests include anomaly detection in the security space, and creating usable products from those detections. My multi-disciplinary background supports my creative problem solving (ask me how I stopped multiple botnets using astrophysics, or watch my PancakesCon 5 talk), sharing that knowledge with others (co-author of the MITRE ATT&CK subtechnique T1098.005), and I am always willing to learn more from the people and teams around me.
